STD IX - Election time
As we stepped in 9th grade in 1994 our batch was given the responsibility of maintaining the school discipline. Yes it was time for elections and selection of new ministers. The seniors term ended as they stepped in 10th grade. It was election time, it was time for campaigning. The curiosity began with who all are contesting for the elections. The best chance for any canadite was to earn respect from all the peers in whatever he does. If he excels in studies and other activities would be considered as an additional benefit. One such canadite and everyones favourite was Nripen Sharma. He was clearly the runner for winning the title. Other contender from our class A was Narendra shenoy. He too was a honest guy with back up of good academics.
There were couple of girls who were in the running for the post. But since they were in minority as compared to guys no one gave them any chance. The next strategy was to get supporters from fellow peers who would campaign along with them in different classes. Supporters shall be selected on basis of popularity amongst students. Many such popular guys became the supporters of various contenders to gather the vote bank.
But what would a contender do who has no academic background and no popularity amongst the other peers. How would one get noticed. Well you can. There is something called as publicity stunt. It was during that point of time we got to know about the real meaning of this word. There was a guy called Kaviraj who was contesting for the post of minister. He was unknown till this moment of time. He got the hottest girl to campaign for him during elections and rally with him around in different classes asking for votes. Everyone who studied in St John in early 90s know who I am talking about. Kaviraj had a strong support in rallying in form of Armina . She was this wonder girl at that point of time and immediately became the talk of the school. Students would wait for Kaviraj to come to class to deliver his promises after becoming minister. No one was interested in what he said but the main attraction here was Ms Armina. She grabbed quite a large no. of eye balls during the election time. It was during that time that she got noticed. But as publicity never works if the film had a bad story similarly the publicity stunt played by Kaviraj didnt quite work for him. As the results were out Nripen Sharma was a clear winner. His supporter friends were also selected as co-ministers. He did deliver what he promised. iselection time would go down in my memory due to the failed publicity stunt and overwhelming victory of Nripen Sharma over others.

Kaviraj, a dumb headed guy for most girls... Looks are not all. Whereas Nripen Sharma, small in stature but grt in brains those days... He won we girls were happy... My best friends kruttika, petty and Pallavi were in the new cabinet that was formed. They did no favor to us though but we were happy Sach Ki Jeet...
